Just a quick run down this week because Momma Marcy is working double duty at her archaeology job and I need to be in the field. Since last we wrote we have been planting like crazy. There have been some hangups - the big tractor is down (again) and the little tractor needed a throttle cable replaced. All in all things have been going well and the field is starting to fill in. By the end of today, we will have over 3000 tomato plants in the ground and close to 4000 onions planted. We will start getting peppers and eggplant in the ground tomorrow. Tonight, Momma Marcy and I, along with Jessica from Purple Leaf Farms, will be at Looseleaf Lounge for a presentation of The Greenhorns. This film follows the stories of several young farmers to see what the future of farming might look like and the struggles they face. Finally, this coming Saturday is the first Huntley Farmers Market of the season. This Saturday is “Plant your Garden” day. The market will be filled with wonderful plants to take home and get your own garden going. Oh yeah, there are still shares available. So, tell everyone you know how wonderful they are and have them sign up. |
