This week has been very busy, very wet and very April-like.  First, I hope no one has taken the jump and put in their tomatoes!  It’s gonna be cold out there for the next few days and maybe even a frost so give it a little more time.

We have been planting any chance we get when we’re not sinking in the field.  We have to be careful about the field because we don’t want to compact the soil any more than we need to.  Plus the seeders just don’t like to work when the soil is soaked like this.  We have onions, artichokes, okra, lettuces, cabbages, both Napa and regular, kale and peas in the ground.

Yesterday we spent the whole day at Grace Farm Studios.  They were gracious enough to let us dig up 200’ of asparagus to transplant into our field.  Hopefully this time next year we’ll be harvesting our own asparagus.

Next week we have a couple events we’ll be at.  First, on Tuesday the 20th there will be a pop-up market at Alexian Brothers Women and Childrens Hospital.  Second, on Wednesday evening we will be hosting a screening of The Greenhorns at Looseleaf Lounge in the Lakeview neighborhood in Chicago.

Finally, next Saturday is the beginning of the Huntley Farmers Market.  Of course we’ll be there with everything we have.  So, stop by and say hi.  It is also Plant Your Garden Day at the market and there will be a kids area for all the little ones.

Oh yeah, there are still shares available.  So, tell everyone you know how wonderful they are and have them sign up.
