It seems that nice-ish weather is here to stay, and boy are we glad. It has been a BUSY week out in the field. We had more than enough tractor trouble to last us a while, but after fixing the axel spindle (for the second time), repairing a lift arm (again) and replacing some hoses, I think we might be OK (knock on wood). We’ve been out plowing and discing the land in Poplar Grove, and spent some time using the smaller walk-behind tractor to make beds. AND THEN WE PLANTED! More in the newsletter.Last Friday we had our second visit from the Roots and Shoots group. Boy can those people work! It may have been rainy and cold but we got a bunch done – the barn and workshop cleaned out, greenhouse frames moved, wood collected, and evil garlic mustard pulled from some flower beds. In addition to the field work, Trogg spent some time at a small pop up market in Hoffman Estates today and got a chance to get out and meet some new people. Trogg’s Hollow will also be at the Elgin Green Expo, which takes place this Friday and Saturday. The Expo is being held at the Centre of Elgin, Friday from 7-9 PM and Saturday from 9-4. Last Saturday, we marked the beginning of the Trogg’s Hollow season with our May Day/Meet and Greet celebration. It was a truly amazing day. I am still feeling a little overwhelmed by what an incredible time we had with our wonderful producers and wonderful supporters. We had local honey from Reader’s Apiaries, eggs from Naturally Naked Foods, beer from Pig Mind’s Brewery, grain from Hazzard Free Farm, and all sorts of other fun stuff and information from the Angelic Organics Learning Center and CRAFT. In addition, we saw a lot of familiar farm members as well as many new ones. And music, amazing music, from Opus Dog and Rebecca Haldeman. Hey we've still got shares available, so buy your mother a CSA share for Mother’s Day. Keep her healthy! |
