Hooray, Spring is here! It may be cold and wet but it’s definitely Spring. The low tunnels we put up last fall are coming back to life. The kids and I crawled in them the other day to find green carrot sprouts and spinach and even lettuce. Days with temperatures around 30 degrees will be nearly perfect to keep the tunnels warm enough for early greens and roots - fingers crossed. We’ve had a busy few weeks here with the expos and talks and performances, not to mention making soil blocks and seeding and wiring up lights and tables in the basement because it is too cold for seedlings. We have, however, had a little time off from events for the last few days and we’ve been making soil blocks and seeding up a storm. We have wonderful artichoke, okra, chives, leeks, lettuce and even lemon drop peppers coming up on our makeshift lighthouse in the basement. pretty soon we’ll have to find somewhere outside to move them. And here’s something exciting. Momma Marcy has taken to Twitter!. Follow her @TrggshollwMomma. She’s tweeting about the farm and kids and animals and food all day long. Check out the schedule on the left there for upcoming events. Please make special note of the farm events. We sent everyone the dates back in January but we know things get pushed aside and we wouldn’t want you to miss a great day at the farm. Already we have 4 bands signed on to play, two of them returning from last year, and we are working on new local producers and artists as well. |
