“Pa came in, shaking the soft snow from his shoulders and stamping it from his boots. “It’s a sugar snow!“ he said.” Yep, from Spring last week back to Winter this week. It’s great for collecting sap from the maples for syrup. Not so great for working in the field. Give it a few minutes, though, it will change. Tonight is the Farmers’ Soup and Bread Night at the Hideout from 5:30pm to 8pm. We will be there with several other farmers serving our homemade soup to raise money for Vital Bridges, the city’s only supplemental food program serving people living with HIV/AIDS. Tomorrow, I will be talking about the importance of knowing your farmer at Bountiful Eatery. Bountiful Eatery is an award winning restaurant in Lakeview and is hosting a Paleo 101 free workshop. The workshop starts at 6:30pm, has several speakers and is free! Saturday is one of our favorite events of the year. Band of Farmers, the Chicagoland CSA Coalition has their annual Farmer Talent Show at the Hideout! Momma Marcy and I will be dancing on stage and a good dozen or so other farmers will be performing as well. It’s a great time to see your farmer not playing in the dirt. We will all be relaxing all night, but we can talk about our farms too if you want. Come on out! On Sunday we will be attending our first farmers market of the year! Unitarian Universalist Church of Elgin is having their Spring farmers market. It will be from 12pm to 3pm on Sunday. And, yes! we will have veggies. We will be harvesting spinach and hopefully some Hakurei turnips. Plus you can come out and sign up for CSA shares if you want. There are tons of other great vendors there as well, including mushrooms, grains, honey, soap and body care products. Oh, and Arnold Farms with their wonderful meat! |
