Trogg's Hollow in Elgin, IL is hiring a part-time farmhand for this coming season.
Farmhand, Part-Time Anticipated Employment Term: May through October Hours: 7am/8am to 5pm/6pm Tuesday and Wednesday (20 or so hours per week) Pay: $8.50 per hour plus veggie benefits We are a small family owned and run farm, with kids and dogs. We are flexible with everything and need workers to be flexible as well. We plant at two different properties in Elgin. Employment terms, days and hours are and need to be flexible. Responsibilities: Work in all areas of vegetable production, including season preparation, tilling, seeding, transplanting, cultivation and weeding, harvest, washing and packing. May also include helping out at Elgin Harvest Market and CSA pickup at the home farm. Also necessary to Keep themselves, the facilities, tools, equipment and farm in general, clean and presentable. Experience: Preferably, but not necessary, applicants will have experience working in a farm, market garden or nursery environment, and a strong interest in small-scale organic farming in general. Qualifications: The desire and ability to maintain outdoor manual labor for extended periods of time, and in all weather conditions, including snow, wind, rain and heat. They should be in good, physical health, and be able to lift heavy objects, work on hands and knees etc. Above all, they should be enthusiastic, cheerful and pleasant with fellow workers and customers, and enjoy the rewards of working on a small-scale organic farm! As a member of CRAFT (Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training), Trogg's Hollow will arrange access to field days and workshops at local farms and institutions throughout the season, as the schedule allows, as well as an introduction to the Midwest small farm community.
